Focus investment in Con Dao
Con Dao has many advantages for tourism development, however, due to many objective conditions, the number of tourists visit Con Dao is countable. To increase the attractiveness for Con Dao, improve infrastructure, investment attraction is being urgently deployed Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
According to the report of People"s Committee of Con Dao district, in the first 3 months of 2013, the total tourism revenue of Con Dao district reached VND79 billion. The total number of tourists visiting Con Dao was 15,922 participants, of which international visitors was 3,340, down 26% over the same period. According to Mr. Le Xa, Chairman of Con Dao district People’s Committee, the reason the number of tourists visiting Con Dao in the first 3 months of the year decreased was the economic situation in the country and the world is still affected by the economic downturn, many people cut down spending on travel. Besides, by the end of February 2013, Air Mekong Airlines suspended flights to Con Dao and vice versa; Vasco airline also stopped the routes Can Tho - Con Dao and vice versa; airfare increases. On the sea, only Con Dao vessel 10 is now operating at a frequency 6 trips / month, therefore, it also limits the number of tourists to Con Dao.
The construction of infrastructure works on Con Dao is now urgently implemented. The Con Dao port upgrading and development project in Vung Tau has been completed and handed over for use. Particularly, the Con Dao passenger ship port is implementing items of bridges, embankment. Continuing construction of infrastructure and buildings by June 2013 to timely complete by June 2014.
Besides, Ben Dam Port Management Authority also submitted the bidding plans for building high-speed ferry for the route Vung Tau to Con Dao to the provincial People’s Committee. Series of infrastructure works are also in the process of construction or preparation of investment such as upgrading roads and Con Dao urban drainage; renovation and development of low and medium voltage grid of Con Dao center; expanding and improving the capacity of An Hoi power plant; water supply system in phase 2; Quang Trung II water reservoir; investment in the northern road of Con Dao center; construction of Con Dao market; opening a representative office in CanTho ... Researching and planning the Con Son center subdivision; planning the Ben Dam subdivision; planning of Co Ong - Dam Tre subdivision is also being carried out urgently. Tourism projects have been agreed upon location, Con Dao district is urging investors to accelerate the progress of construction to soon open and receive tourists.
